A magnificent shot, combining action and elegance. The jabiru is the largest bird in Central and South America; it can reach a height of five feet (1.5 m). It possesses an impressive wingspan—like two feathered fans opening to a width of 8 feet (2.5 m). It would be startling to see it suddenly beat its wings and land right in front of me.
It is interesting to learn that the name "Jabiru" originates from the Tupi-Guarani language and means "swollen neck"—a characteristic unique to this giant bird. ~VVVVV+~
