Once upon a time . . . when Hartford was a nice place to live and visit back in the 1950's,
there were several theaters within walking distance from each other (Loew's Poli, Loew's Poli Palace, Strand, E.M. Loews,
Allyn, State Theater, Parsons), restaurants, department stores (G. Fox, Sage Allen, Wise & Smith/E.J.
Korvette, Brown Thompson, Woolworth, Kresge, Newberrys, Grants, Sears, Marholin's.) and small specialty shops.
Stores were closed on Sunday but open until 9 p.m. every Thursday.
