North American Nebula

July 6, 2008 early morning.

Seeing was incredible, but haze/humidity in the air softened up the sky. I shot this object as it was directly overhead where the seeing was sharpest. One hour total exposure; 8 shots on the east side of the meridian and 12 on the west side. Each shot was 3 minutes. I use Cartes du Ciel to plan my outings and I must have it set up wrong as I had another hour on the east side of the meridian I could have used. So ended up wasting almost 1 hour of a good night. There were some clouds that passed overhead right in the middle of my session, I took dark frames at those times. Just after I began my adventure with flipping the mount I could see light flashes from lighting in the distance with thunder following. Never did see any heavy clouds or actual lightening bolts.

I've solved an issue with my tripod that has been messing up my polar alignment, and tracking was spot on.
