A Black Widow Spider, that is not black.

Here in the high desert of California I see Black Widow Spiders often. Sometimes they are not black though. Like this one, very pretty colors. You can see her red hour glass design in this image. Sorry that the image is not that good, but I have no macro lenses. This is a 50 mm f1.8 lens with three stacked close-up screw on lenses.

Since this spider was so large, about the size of an average adult Black Widow, I doubt it was very young. I have seen younge Black Widows, and they are indeed brown, and similar colors to this, but nothing like this size. So, maybe the Brown Widow is the answer.

I have done some extensive studies in the area of black widow spiders as I have been bit 3 times now. From what I can tell this is either a young black widow, or a species known as a brown widow. A brown widow is in the same family as a black widow but not as toxic. Just thought I would let you know.
