Saturn occultation image 14

This is the 14th of 15 sequential images of an occultation of Saturn by the Moon on Sep 10, 2001. In an occultation one object passes in front of the other, obscuring the farther object of the nearer object covers a greater angle. If you look very closely you will see that the trailing ring of Saturn is still just slightly clipped by the Moon. Since the Moon light is not washing out Saturn so badly, a bit more detail can be seen in the planet.

My Sony 505v was being used with eye piece projection from an 8" Meade LX-50.

other sizes: small medium original auto
