This old shoe shop is located in the neighborhood where I grew up and I've walked, ridden and driven past it all my life.
Many times I've thought about getting a picture of this old sign before it disappeared.
This shop's been closed for quite a while, I'm surprised it's not gone yet. Right around the corner whole city blocks have been cleared for "redevelopment."
Too many times that's happened.
Too many times I've returned to find visual heritage painted over or torn down to make room for something new.
Soon there will be nothing but cheap stucco and steel and parking lots.
Sometimes I wonder if, by my drawing attention to it, I've caused the eclipse of my own town's culture.
Worse yet, does anyone but me notice these changes?
