Painted Turtle - Chrysemys picta

Groton, Ma.

This was one of 8 turtles I saw on this 54f December day. A few were in puddles at the edge of the ice and a couple like this one were making a long trek across the ice surface. A very surprising sight on the mostly frozen pond section of the Squannacook River.

Nice encounter and shot Tom. Not often does one see a turtle trekking over ice.

This is a wonderful shot of the turtle trundling along. Surprising to see them in winter, but at 54f they must have thought it spring-like.
