I had some logs for the fire delivered this week, since then I have found three of these beetles in my house, my little dog likes to chase insects, we are used to them as we live in the country, this beetle however looks dangerous.
I put a paper kitchen towel around it and picked it up, it grabbed the towel in its mandables and dark fluid was squirted into the towel.
I think these insects could bite hard. Can you give me any information on them please, at first glance I theought it may be a Devils Coachman, but am not sure. It was about 2 inches long, very hard and powerful mandables, I am only glad it was the tissue of the kitchen towel it held in them, it took some pulling out of the mandibles. Have these creatures arrived in the wood, I never noticed any when I was stacking it.
