You may read the exposure on the pair's faces by either using spot metering or closing in on them and lock exposure, then back out to take your shot. You will get a picture similar to this -- correctly exposed faces but washed out, overexposed background. (Note: this is not the actual result, but manipulated in the computer for demo purposes.)
