Child’s Whisper

I was to take pictures of the Muslims’ Friday worship at the Islamic Center in Marawi. But right at the entrance was this wonderful father-and-son pair sharing a tender moment. The father, who was conversing with fellow Muslims, often kissed the child seated on his lap. It took nine shots to capture the “decisive moment.”

this one is excellent! i tried similar approach for a close-up pic using a Olympus C730 with apperture priority but all i got were either over exposure or blur. hmm... more practice, that is what i need.

Lia, I doubt if you can take good "candid" photos by being "inconspicuous." Maybe with a 500mm lens, you can. But I like short focal lengths to do this kind of picture. You're more likely to get these intimate photos by getting to know the subjects, chatting with them, making friends, making them comfortable with your presence. You become inconspicuous only when they're comfortable with you, clicking away. Manual or gigital, doesn't matter. IMHO, it's more people skills than photographic skills. But it helps to take lots of photos coz you'll never know when the best moment will come.

I really like this picture.
I have a question: do you find it difficult to take pictures of people?
Because I do. I want to be as inconspicuous as possible yet I also want
to get closer to my subjects so I could get a better shot. How do you do it?
I am 'manual', by the way.
Thanks.
