37872 - The House of Menander

view map

Built in the 3rd century BC, and later expanded to over 1800 sq meters, the house of Menander
is believed to have belonged to the family of Poppaea Sabina, Nero's 2nd wife. In the following
photos, the inlaid mosaic floors and well preserved wall art can be seen. The house is named
for the Greek playwright Menander, who is depicted in some of the art found in the home.
