It is nice to find a sight like you have here. I have a marlin model A1 that was my dads. Years ago he let someone he worked with to take it to repair something on it. When he got it back the ejection fingers were missing. He was always very upset over this and put it away never to touch it again. He passed away in 2001 and I ended up with it. I now have grandkids of my own and took out the marlin with hopes of fixing it for one of them. I am looking for a parts diagram for it and also a place where I may be able to get parts. I would appreciate and information you would be willing to share. Thank you in advance. Paul Berry

Lou it sounds like you might have to replace the magazine catch on the rifle. You can find a new catch on many of the auction sites or gun parts suppliers. Look for it listed in Marlin A1 or Marlin Model 80 as they use the same catch/catch screw.

I shot it in high school (early 70's) and the clip would fall out practically after each shot. Can you tell me if the clip needs to be adjusted? If so, where/how? I would like to bring back some old memories.

I was just given my grandfather's Marlin semiauto 22...I called Marlin and it appears it is an A1E with hooded target sites in the rear. I shot this rifle on a range in the early 1970's and the clip would fall out. Does the clip need to be adjusted? If so can you explain how? I would really like to shoot this again. Thanks so much.

Kevin what you are going to have to look for is a Marlin 80 magazine. You can find them on eBay,Gunbroker,Gunauction etc. You will have some modifications to do on magazine for it to work in the A1. I'll post the link to the mods you'll have to do.

Chris sometimes the lips at the front of the magazine have to be adjusted slightly to allow proper ammunition feed. Sounds like in your case,slightly inward. Be careful not to
adjust to far. A small pair of pliers can be used for bending the lips of the magazine.

i needed a clip for my marlin a-1 22 and did the mod clip from a model 80 etc. everytime it shoots and throws the casing out the new bullet gets jamed at an angle in the chamber...why is this happening? thought it may need cleaned so i did and it still does this

Magazines can be made up from the (Old style) Marlin Model 80 bolt acton .22 magazine with some modifications to the top of the magazine. I have the mod. detailed on the Marlin Collectors web site.

Hi tigweld, it's good to see someone else with an appreciation for the A-1's. They aren't easy to get info on. I was just given one that was in terrible shape, lots of rust and some missing pieces. Any chance you could share some more info with me about how to get parts?

I wanted to say "Thank You for all the info on the Marlin Ranger A1. My husband has his fathers and we knew he had bought it from Sears. The one we have has a chain attached to the clip and when my husband opened the butt it had another clip plus his father had his address in it as well. We realized that his father got the gun when he was 13 or so and have heard the stories of him squirrel hunting in his youth. Thanks again for all the info. Eve
