Tawny Frogmouth

A tawny frogmouth is not an owl.
It is a nightjar.
I have been hearing them for a couple of nights.
Spotted this one at 1pm. It seemed to be wide awake and watching me.
It really blends in with its environment.

Dear Terry,
Thanks so much for your kind comments.
The tawny frogmouth is about the same size as an owl
That is why it is often confused for one.

Wonderful capture, Elaine! New bird for me. I does look a bit like a small owl. How big is it?

Thanks very much Sally. I have photographed others in the past and posted it on TTL.
Still could resist posting this one. Neighbours reported one had fallen out of a tree and taken to a local vet.
We don’t know it’s fate yet. Love hearing them at night.
