Flying Fox in Full Flight

I cannot resist taking photographs of these beguiling creatures.
This shot was taken at midday.
I usually take my photographs at dusk which makes life a little difficult.
I am happy to say that the bats have now been with us for more than two years.
Unfortunately, 35,000 died in the heat in Far North Queensland last sping. 5,000 in one day alone.
This makes me treasure my photographs even more.

Thanks for your kind comments Hal and Terry.
I take hundreds and hundreds just to get a few good shots.
At the moment the melaleucas are blooming so the bats come quite close
to the edge of the wetlands and our house.
I think they know what I am upto and fly off as soon as they see me and my camera!!

Dear Sally and Pete,
Thanks for your kind appraisal of this photograph.
I love having the bats here. They have been in the paperbarks for more than two years now.
They do get a bit smelly when it rains but I just close the windows and put on a perfumed candle.

This is an amazing shot Elaine!
We bats here. When the trees are bearing fruit.
They are very noisy during the night.
Pity so many died.

A great shot with the light showing detail. Staggering numbers of deaths
