Chalk Cliffs

GOVE COUNTY, KANSAS

Monument Rocks National Monument, south of Oakley (as in "Annie"), Kansas.
During the Cretaceous Period, all Kansas was covered by a vast inland sea, geologists believe. The rocks contain numerous fossilized remains. What a place! Notice the sedimentary striations...
We'd have stayed longer if it hadn't been lunch time, and 105 degrees F...

Not the Kansas that I'm used to seeing. Very unusual cliffs. It must have been great to be there, they are beautiful.
