Smith Peak is a small but prominent peak on a divide between Smith Station on the west and Buck Meadows on the east. Jordan Creek and Moore Creek bracket Smith Ridge, and these converge near the confluence of North Fork Merced River and Bull Creek, at the site of the Bower Cave and the Linkletter estate. The historic Old Yosemite-Coulterville Road passes through, continuing east to climb past Pilot Peak.
The snowy peak background left of the tower is Duckwall Mountain, north of the Tuolumne River canyon and east of the towns of Sonora and Tuolumne. Left of the tower is a short cherry tree, blooming.
