Born to Comanche chief Peta Nocona and Cynthia Ann Parker, a white woman captured by
Comanches as a child. Quanah led his people in resistance and surrendered in June 1875
only after Buffalo Herds were exterminated and survival in winter was no longer possible.
Towards the end of his life, in 1902 he was elected Deputy Sheriff of Lawton, OK. He was so well known and
respected that President Theodore Roosevelt often visited him and would go on hunting trips together.
