The Building is plain and simple, constructed short after climactic independence
movement shook the existing world order and created independent Mexico. What
followed was a Secularization and that made the Missions meaningless, often
abandoned. And than one rough-tough band of English speaking adventurers under
Captain Fremont crossed the Sierra Nevada and descended upon Alta California,
and the world order was changed again. Nobody cared about the Mission churches.
