The Missions in (former) Alta California were founded by Franciscans. They are
mostly meticulously restored from ruins and many of them have an active parish.
The Missions in the Baja are sadly mostly abandoned and in ruins. They were
founded almost 100 years earlier, predominantly by Jesuits and Dominicans.
