This tunnel is on the old railway route from Edinburgh to Colinton, which was once a seperate village (now absorbed within the city). The rail lines were lifted in the 1960's and the route is now converted to a walk/cycle way.

Now the local council are looking at plans to spend millions to bring back trams, shame they took up these rails then !
