The highlight of this Monterey Bay pelagic was the smooth water on the bay in the lee of the Santa Cruz Mountains, allowing my best-ever close views and photography of Sooty Shearwaters. We had fog the whole route, which means generally less sharply focused pictures with less vibrant colors than when the sun is out.
