I originally called this a juvenile, with its fresh plumage and some rufous -- though much less rufous than most juveniles. (For more plumage detail, see http://www.pbase.com/image/83817320 .) I thought any rufous meant juvenile. Mike Rogers says nope, it is an adult in prebasic molt, and points to the worn tips of some feathers, and the old tertial under a new one. Live and learn!
