Northern Flicker, male intergrade

This is an intergrade, with the head markings of the Yellow-shafted and the red undertail (see http://www.pbase.com/image/74360685 ) of the Red-shafted.

We keep that "Carpe Diem" stone by our fountain to give the birds a chance to make a philosophical statement. Shot this through a plate glass window, hence the slightly murky look.
