Another not-so-good picture that I nevertheless post, as a memento. As I was driving along Highway 89 between 49 and Calpine Road I saw a line of cars pulled onto the shoulder and a bunch of birders gazing eastward with binoculars. It was the Santa Cruz bird club, and Clay Kempf had spotted this pair of Sandhill Cranes in a pasture at some distance. A great view for me and for all the Santa Cruz gang -- unfortunately for photographic purposes they were into the sun. I had a closer view of Sandhill during my trip, a single-bird flyby on Marble Hot Springs Road, but I wasn't set up to take a flight shot.
