This was my first stop in Costa Rica, and I had six days here. The lodge is located in the north of Costa Rica on the Caribbean side in 500 acres of lowland rainforest. Even in the dry season you can expect some rain most days, but Selva Verde is great for this as it has covered walkways to almost all facilities and birding can be quite good from these walkways, even in the rain. The walkways were lit at night and I would often work them for insects that were attracted to the lights. There are a number of trails that should be walked and trips across the road to the forest and botanical gardens are well worth the effort. For bird photographers they have a circular blind surrounded by bird feeders in the gardens. The area across the river is primary rainforest and requires that you hire a guide to visit, but is well worth the cost. Personally, as a nature photographer, I could have used more time here, but that is true with every place I staid.
