Although Savegre does not have as many species of birds as the lodges at lower altitudes, many of the species found here can only be found at these higher altitudes. Savegre is probably the best place in Costa Rica for seeing Resplendant Quetzal, and indead I saw them on six of the seven days I was there. Savegre also has many species that are endemic to the Chiriqui Highlands of southern Costa Rica and western Panama, birds like the Costa Rican Pygmy-Owl, Ruddy Treerunner, Long-tailed Silky-Flycatcher and Collared Redstart just to name a few.
