It's kind of amazing that on July 1, migrant SOUTHBOUND shorebirds are starting to appear. This Greater Yellowlegs is already starting to moult out of its peak alternate plumage. In the past three days at the same locations along Elkhorn Slough at approximately the same time, there have been six, then sixteen, and today, ZERO Greater Yellowlegs, highlighting the movement of these birds. Peeps are showing up in small numbers as well; adults arrive first; juveniles/hatch year birds will arrive in a month or so.
