As an afterthought I added this, just in case the steel to cast-iron weld to the block didn't hold.
The angle is bolted tight against the patch, and set in Ultra Black Permatex.
I was able to use one unused existing bolt hole in the block,
and I drilled and tapped a second one into the flange that extends out to the transmission.
