The old Lochrie house is under new ownership, Scott Penrod, and you should see it now. It is being restored, etc. the old trees have been removed around the building, and work is being done to restore the windows. etc. Can't wait to see the inside when they are done.

My aunt and grandmother lived across the street on Cambria Ave. Ther was a huge stone wall all around this house. It always looked creepy to me when I was young. My sister and brother & I never set foot on that property but always were on top of the stone wall enjoying the may chestnut trees. There were so many and we were always stomping on the shells to get to the buckeyes on the inside.

My friend used to babysit here and she asked me to sleep over one night with her and the kids, I had a restless night, all those rooms, doors etc. Afraid to close my eyes.

The Lochrie home is located on the corner of 15th.St. and Cambria Ave.,next door to the Windber Museum, directly up from the Municipal Building on Somerset Ave.

Can you please tell me where this house is located?

This is the wonderful Lochrie Mansion, build by a Scottish immigrant, John Lochrie who came into Windber, about 1899 with wife Tillie, and built the house about 1901. By 1903 the Windber Era reported that John Lochrie, and his new wife ( second wife) Kathleen McNamara were married in New York and were coming home to their Lochrie Mansion. They raised 14 children ( from both marriages) in this home with 7 servants on staff. Sadly the absence of care shows the ravages of old age and it no longer is the structure once held in such high esteem by the Scottish builder.

Is this the sinking house? My grandfather used to tell us stories about this house. We never believed him though!
