Young unmarried Batak girl

The Batak are another indigenous group we visited elsewhere on Palawan. Though they were primarily hunter-gatherers, they also cultivated small agricultural fields.
The anthropologist James Eder lived with the Batak off and on for many years and has published a book that describes their way of life and the threats to their survival.
The Batak are now an endangered 'tribal minority' of just a few hundred individuals.
