The women related to the bull jumper celebrate the upcoming bull jumping by dancing and singing. They ask the men to whip them on their bare backs. This shows their strength and support for the bull jumper and leaves lasting scars. The more scars they have the more it proves their sacrifice. If they ever fall on hard times, the man is obligated to help her. The more scars a woman has the greater her status in the tribe. We witnessed several of the whippings in which the women never even flinched. Many women had fresh bleeding marks on their backs.
