Bok globules in the Running chicken nebula

In a closer look of the Running chicken nebula (IC2944) you can see a series of black clumps dotted against the background - they are known as Bok globules.
Dark Bok globules absorb the light from their more luminous background.
These globules are potential sites for condensation of newborn stars.
