Started out on 23 Aug 1987, we were ferried in a pick-up lorry to Blue Valley Tea Estate, Cameron H'lands. We bade farewell to 5 gracious send-off party.
Our approach was along a laterite road for 1km before we start the climb at the base of G. Siku(6285').
Laden with 60lbs haveersack each, the uphill trudge was arduos, the gradient punishing, almost at a snail's pace heaving and puffing for breath. The goings made difficult by rattan thickets and undergrowth. On reaching the summit ridge the gradient lessen and soon we were into mossy forest. A wrong turning took us down the Sg. Ikan valley, losing some 250' in altitude; has to backtracked up the ridge crest . Besides maps, compass, we got pedemeter for measuring distances, altimeter for measuring height and thermometer.
Reached peak of G. Siku at 5.30pm, paused to observed surroundings before proceeding to a sister peak nearby where we made camp for the night. Tents soon pitched, dinner followed afterwhich we lazed talking through the cool night.
