AN ODE TO BASKETS OF FLOWERS
A brilliant myriad of little flowers
    In hanging moss lined baskets
Gently turning in the breeze. Andante
Your green trailing tendrils descending playfully
Framed by an azure sky
You tug at my heart strings
Creating a smile on my face as I pass by.
You were planted with loving hands
     Watered, nurtured with knowing minds
Designed to show your beauty to all
Who would stop to give the time.
A brick and mortar canyon now hold you
To minuet, waltz and show your claim to mirth
You fill the void of beauty the canyon cannot fill
And in this canyon, you found birth.
Brilliant myriad of little flowers
Small in size, radiant in beauty
Your only desire is to lift the heart
And turn the face of man upward
To his Creator in praise and honor.
"Of Thoughts and Blessings"
From the book by Susan Weathers Hiatt
Written in honor of the many beautiful hanging baskets of flowers now so lovingly placed and cared for on our streets in Mount Airy.
