The first flowers to bloom every spring in our woods,
Bloodroots appear while the ground is still otherwise bare
to the face of the sun,
well before tree leaves emerge to shade the area.
The flowers open only while receiving direct sunlight, and their
beautifully-shaped leaves unfurl slowly until only they remain,
once the flower petals have dropped off.
