Built by Joseon Dynasty in 1395 as their primary residence. After all the palaces were destroyed during the Japanese invasion (1592-1598), Changdeokgung served as the primary residence and this location was left derelict for 270 years. In 1867 it was rebuilt markedly different than the original palace.
