Comparison with a 4metre class telescope

This comparison illustrates rather dramatically the advancements in amateur imaging in recent years.

The image on the Left by Steve Lee and David Malin was taken in 1993 using the 4 metre Anglo
Australian Telescope and three photographic plates were combined into a single RGB image

The image on the Right was taken by me in 2017 using a short fast 0.3m telescope at my small
amateur observatory using a cooled CCD camera and 5 different filters: Ha OIII & R,G,B

Many of us don't realise just how good we have it now! LOL :-)
