Anticipation

Oakland, Ca

On Jan 1, 2009, BART Police Officer Johannes Mehserly shot and killed Oscar Grant. Shortly after, protests in Oakland turned violent, with many windows broken and cars set afire ect. Officer Mehselry was later charged with murder. That trial is now in the hands of the jury and a verdict is expected very soon. In anticipation of the verdict and possible violent protests many businesses have boarded the windows of storefronts along Broadway and other streets in Oakland. This three shot collage shows a call for protest and some boarded up windows at a bank and T-Mobile store.

I wonder if a newspaper would like this photo? It really tells the story...you have a keen eye!

Good coverage of the situation. Hope you aren't there if things get out of hand!

This is a really good image Steve. I think it tells a story way better than the actual news articles do. The college administrators at our college have been following this closely because the officer was actually a student at one point at our district. We had emails going out about possible riots and to stay away from BART. I would expect the verdict would be tomorrow since deliberations ended today. Either way people are going to be unhappy with the decision.

Nice job with the photo, Steve. Why such people think that violence is justified is beyond me. Malicious violence is criminal and those guilty of it are also worthy of having justice served on them, no matter what. Do you know any of the background on this Oscar? Or the officer? I hate mobs and violence.
