I did not catch the man-in-the-moon on a starless night. This is a painted wooden bowl. My simple set-up involved a ceiling mounted light and the bowl placed on a dark fabric on the floor. I used a tripod, twilight mode, and indoor white balance, and cloned out most of the highlights reflecting on the bowl.
