14-AUG-2007 Sky

1st Place
Quasi Dragonfly
by Sky

Texas, USA

As a note, I had second thoughts about posting bugs because they can be a turn-off for many people - and of course, one of the objects of the challenge is to win. But I feel that it's more important to have fun. AND - bugs, whether liked or not, are a vital part of our ecosystem, and when placed under the microscope are quite beautiful. Without bugs - our beautiful world would disappear. So as I thought, I wondered if there were people who didn't like birds? Eagles? Snakes? Sunsets? Sunrises? Children? Animals? Moons? Water drops? Possums? Flowers? Golf? Football? Baseball? Books? People with big eyes? Other races - their cultures and customs? And then I thought -heck yes! I'm entering my bugs!

Thanks so much everyone for making my ego feeling as big as the dragonfly's eyes!

Colleen - after I downloaded the photo, I felt lucky that the little guy didn't try to eat me. I suppose I should have called him, "Texas Size Dragonfly" or "Bugsy".

Bill - The 'mind's eye' is his 'third eye' or the primitive eye called the median ocellus.

Thanks again, everyone!

Wow, great close-up, sister Sky. With those big eyes, I wonder what you looked like to the bug.

Sky...This is an amazing photo! Would work well for a stereo anaglyph. Such detail is unbelievable. And is that it's "Minds Eye" coming out?
Guest 05-Oct-2007 16:27
I lost count of the facets in the eyes. Can you show the other side please? Dale
