28-AUG-2007 Helen Betts

7th: Brilliant Bloom
by Helen Betts

Washington, D.C.

I had bought this hibiscus a while back because I just loved the color and almost killed it in the recent heat. But we finally got it put in the ground, and it came back today.

Thanks, everybody, for the comments. I used to photograph hibiscus all the time in Okinawa and always approached them head on, for some reason, in which case something was always out of focus. So this time I thought I'd try a different angle and scrunched down in the dirt (with the mosquitoes) in my garden and liked this different perspective. And the plant has totally recovered from being baked in a planter and is blooming every day again. Helen
