Fire and Water
by Ann Chaikin

Bellingham

Another experiment. This time I was trying to catch suspended water and a candle at the same time. I set a small blue saucer on the area between two sinks and the candle in one of the sinks. Both were in all of the images I took but each time one or the other was in focus and the other one was not. Ended up combining two shots to solve this problem. One had a sharp image of the candle with out of focus water. The other had sharp drops and saucer witha blurry candle. I cut out part of the image with the clear plate and drops and put the other image behind it.

Very cool! The water pool almost looks as if its suspended in air.

Nicely done Ann. I was thinking about doing a water/fire mix myself but couldn't come up with any good ideas. Obviously you didn't run into that problem. Looks great. Jim Fitzgerald

This is wonderful! It also has a certain -- if you'll excuse the comparison -- MFC-ish quality to the composition. Thank you for the description of post processing, too. I keep forgetting how flexible this digital medium is.

How very crafty Ann! I was wondering how these two subjects ended up together? :-) Mark J
