I made one last tweak around the edges. Really zoomed in and masked a little closer to erase the blur layer and bring out the original image.

I like the effect of having the DOF only on the foreground. Nice details and composition. What disturbs me a little is the blurry edge of the wood which seems to be the side effect of applying Gaussian blur on the background. Try to use "lens blur" on, it is usually better in this context. MCsaba

I understand what you are saying and so did some post processing. I think it does help.

The composition is what I really like of this shot. Very pleasing, but I struggle with the blur in the foreground and would prefer a depper DOF.
