Mark, I would do but I ran out of brandy during that shooting session. I promise I'll get back to this subject and will account for all the suggestions from you folks. Thanks again. bbzippo.

bbzip... don't forget you are allowed to resubmit an image if you like! YOu can reshoot this and resubmit it tweaked. Just a friendly reminder for you. Mark J

Thanks for your 5 cents, Mark J :). By collecting such nickels I'm going to make a fortune of expertise, and that's why I'm here :). Love STF!

bbzip.... if this were my own image, here's what I might do: I might place the glass in front of the bottle just enough to give the image more a feeling of depth. I might also change the angle in which the light source is hitting your subjects so you can achieve a more even reflection in the bottom of the glass (you CAN do this). In fact, I might even experiment with putting a second light source, so that you have light coming from two sides (top and left or right or, two from the top). Remember, the reflection in bottom of glass is refracted by the liquid in the glass so... keep experimenting with light positioning. Just my two cents...maybe 5 cents ? :-) Mark J

Thanks for the comments. Shay, you are right about highlights. I tried to adjust the curve in PS, but couldn't come to anything better (to my taste) than that what you see.
The frame is made out of fragments of Durer's "Melancholia". First I wanted to introduce other subjects into the shot (like a pen and paper or a book) to show that the mood is not just about having some brandy in the dimmed light, but also thinking about something abstract. But I failed to compose it well and decided to express this thought at least with the frame. Pardon my poor English, I wish I could express myself better.
bbzippo.

Wonderful idea that's nicely composed. Maybe it's my monitor, but I can barely make out the subjects of the image. Is that a PhotoShop frame? Very neat!

The subdued lighting fits the mood of the title, but the highlights seem a bit too strong. If the lighting could be softened somehow it would lend itself better to the mood, keep the midtones and shadows as they are, but work on the highlights. - Shay
