3rd: Carry on Regardless
by Carmen

This is an egg I painted several years ago, nestled in my favorite glass which was broken a couple weeks ago.
I was upset about the glass breaking, but my second thought was, "That'll make a neat picture!"
Anyway, I ended up cleaning it up a bit in Photoshop as it was a bit dusty and spotty and I couldn't get it sparkling due to its fragile condition.

I don't do a lot of still life / set up shots so I was fumbling around a lot. I know there's things I could do better; specific and general suggestions are welcome. The setup for this was just a piece of big black paper curled into a wave beneath and behind the glass, with a artist lamp and a couple of pieces of blank copy paper to redirect the light a bit.
Here are two other shots that I liked; I'm not certain I picked the best for the challenge: Alt. Shot 2 & Alt. Shot 3

First of all - very clever idea for a picture! I like the uniform background, lighting and the colorful egg. Edges of the glass look really sharp. Ouch!

Carmen, wonderful color and reflection. You did wonders with the glass.I am always so impressed with "still life" images. They are really difficult to do correctly. Great job and I like this one the best.

Carmen, I really like your beautiful egg here...and the way it rests inside the glass. Well composed, nice lighting, and good background choice...nice reflection too. You really captured the "sharpness" of those broken edges...ouch :) Nice photo & well taken, Carmen. MFC

Great image! The play of the colors, the reflection and the black background is terrific. Personally I prefer the Alt-Shot-2 (mainly because of the DOF). Cheers, Frank

I think this is a fantastic shot - especially for someone who doesn't do much still life! Your choice of background and lighting is very nice indeed. I wish I could photograph glass as well as you've done here. BTW, sorry to hear about the breakage. Well done for putting a positive spin on it.
