Thank you everyone! The flame in the background is the flame in my gas stove in my living room. I applied the 'glowing edges' filter effect to a layer and then reduced the opacity. I liked how it made the eyes pop, among other things. Simon--thank you for the 'boost', it means alot to me. --Melanie

I like your exploratory spirit, Melanie. You've been an inspiration to me on more than a few occasions so in response to 'perhaps more than I should' comment I say 'keep it up!'. My eyes are crawling all over the textures on this composition trying to take it all in. The addition of the flame in the background turns a still life in to a story. Great stuff.

This is a beautiful image, Melanie...wonderful colors and sense of texture. I love the feeling of flames in the background...and the contrast provided by the black background. This has a Native American feel to it...like it's part of a spiritual ceremony. Creatively realized...and a unique idea. MFC
