Thanks, Justin, for commenting: I’m glad you like the image! The big earthquake of 1755 with the consequential fire (forty thousand people perished) and the following huge wave that came up the Tagus river destroyed—as far as I know—the more central parts of Lisbon, but not the area of Belém where the Hieronimyte Monastery stands; to my knowledge it was not damaged at the time. — db.

Very nice composition and choice of lighting. I like the decision to stand in the shadowed archway and shoot out to the light. 16th Century? So would this site have withstood the great Lisbon earthquake and tsunami, or did it get damaged and have to be rebuilt at all?

Thank you, Katherine! — db.

Very nice indeed. I'm going to need a long vacation just for photography to capture places like this. Where I live ... there's just not that many interesting things to shoot.

Jerry: having followed for quite a time now your work (in these challenges) and liking it, I do appreciate your comment accordingly! — db.

Very nice, Daniel. I'm particularly fond of frames in images like this, and the intricate detail and the light spilling back through the frame make this shot.

Thanks a lot, Franky2005, for having a closer look at my image(s). This «place»—as you call itl, bottles—was built in the 16th century. It should, therefore, be old enough to be on-topic. ;-)) — db.

Yeah, I agree with Frank, it is a perfect capture. I like the contrast in this shot too, really nice! Boy, I wonder how old that place is?

Great shot! I absolutely love how the light plays on these fantastic pillars. Perfect capture!
