Sewing Machine *
by Awais Yaqub

Pakistan / Islamabad

It is a tradition to give a sewing machine to daughters at time of their marriage no matter what is financial position of her husband. This could be a time pass in new home or business I know many people who lost their father in very little age and their mothers brought them up by sewing cloths of women of neighborhood it is very appropriate business for a women in Pakistan. The picture of above machine is my Mother’s gift of marriage about 20 years old
PS for b&w and put a cloth in sewing process for sense of motion

Very nice piece of equipment, Awais! I like the black and white rendition. Your inclusion of the sense of motion is also a nice idea. And thanks for also including the story behind the tradition. - I 've learned something new today.

Awais, this is wonderful. The detail you captured is lovely and so is the lighting. My grandmother was a seamstress in Brooklyn, NY many, many years ago and I spent quite a few hours with her by the sewing machine. This brings back beautiful memories. Densie

Very very nice Awais - I really like how you have captured this image - the black and white treatment is masterful and highlights the inlaid design on the machine and the desk very well. I remember sitting next to my mother as a young kid while she was making curtains and having a blast rotating the flywheel at the other end so she could concentrate on getting the seams right at the other end. ~ gaurav

Really a nice shot Awais, and an interesting story behind it. Your choice of lighting brings out the details on the machine very nicely. I like the sense of motion too... pretty cool!
