Necessity or not, I really like what you did with the wings and frame. Nice shot! Helen

Pops - re your comment about no choice but to crop wingtips, perhaps an illustration of how an artist must make a virtue out of necessity.... Well done! --David W.

I love OUT OF FRAME shots. Just do! You did great here and the color is POP OUT good!

Your choice of frame really adds to the sensation of flight. Very nice, Pops. Bev

Well done, Pops...nice technique and presentation. I also like the out-of-frame impact of this plane...it feels very intimate/close. Beautiful color contrast & clarity... great sense of "taking-off' with that shadow on the ground. Nicely done, Pops. MFC

DM, thanks for the comment. I should clarify a bit, cropping off the wings was not a choice. That prop can be rotating at over 10,000 rpm but even at idle or 2,000 rpm as it is in this picture it acts more like razor blades when it come into contact with fingers. I've seen that too many times. There is no way I'm standing near the flight path of a moving plane, its just too dangerous. Two friends were holding the wingtips. The plane wasn't moving at all. Ron's shadow has been cloned out. My PS skills are good enough to remove a shadow but not the actual hands!

This would be a great photo even with a more conventional presentation, but the decision to have the wings extend beyond the frame, and then to also crop off the ends of the wings, really makes it into a tremendously dynamic image.
