18 JAN 05 Bev Brink

Guardians
by Bev Brink

Grand Haven, Michigan

The Inner and Outer lights are connected on a concrete pier
that juts more than 1,100 feet into Lake Michigan.
They are connected to the shore by a long catwalk - a remnant
of the days when keepers would have to avoid the large waves.

Both are working lights.

All sorts of well related elements here, Bev. I also like the isolated reds, and the foreground fence adds greatly to the depth of this scene. - Mike

Beautiful cold, wintery scene. I like the red lights against the cloudy sky.

Bev: The fence in the foreground adds to the sense of lighthouse isolation. The color balance is wonderful. Fremiet

Bev, I like this wintery landscape/waterscape...the moody feel, the color contrast, the composition roughly divided into thirds. Nice exposure too. MFC

I like the red standing out in the midst of the other sort of dreary colors. Very nicely composed as well. Helen

Hi gk - thanks for your comments on this image. This was shot at 28mm, f.8, 1/320 sec., and ISO-100. (Unfortunately, I have never figured out how to save this info once I make any changes.) This was a bitterly cold and windy day and after 4 shots the camera just quit. I used the automatic color balance in PSP7 to whiten the snow and add just a slight blue tone to what was a gray/green sky (a storm was moving in). That was about it except to crop off some of the sky. Thanks, Bev

Bev I love the composition and color that you have achieved on what seems a pretty cloudy day. The red buildings provide a perfect contrast against the snow and gray background. Could you share the settings you used?

thanks
